On March 8, multiple shots were fired at Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s Beverly Hills home in Los Angeles, California.

Both Rihanna, real name Robyn Fenty, and Rocky, real name Rakim Athelston, were present with their three children at the time of the shooting. Fortunately, no one was harmed.

Shortly after the shooting, the suspect who was identified was Ivanna Lissette was booked on suspicion of attempted murder with a bail set a little over $10m. The next day, Lissette was officially charged for the following:

one count of attempted murder, nine counts of assault with a firearm, two counts of shooting into an inhabited dwelling, and one count of shooting at a motor vehicle.

Police believe that Lissette had no motive to target Rihanna and her family, but clips from Lissette’s social media tell a different story.

Reports state that days before the shooting, Lissette posted vile and defamatory comments towards Rihanna. Other celebrities, including Cardi B and Kim Kardashian, were also attacked by Lissette via social media.

There is no reported connection between the 35-year old shooter and the CEO of Fenty Beauty. It is fair to wonder how far a parasocial fan will go to be seen by celebrities.

The shooting against Rihanna and her family should not be taken lightly by the public or law enforcement. It is important that fans remember to control their fixations on celebrities and not cross any boundaries.

As for celebrities, public figures should stay safe and vigilant of any threats, even the ones that are deemed minute. Rihanna is known for being a carefree superstar, walking to the local grocery store, interacting with fans on the street, and having little to no security present. Due to the shooting, the highly decorated singer and her loved ones should be more careful going foward.
