Melania Trump finally steps into the spotlight as the First Lady of The United States with her self titled documentary, “MELANIA”. Unfortunately, the Amazon Prime film did not do the two timed FLOTUS any justice.

Step inside Melania Trump’s world as she orchestrates inauguration plans, navigates the White House transition, and moves her family back to Washington. Featuring exclusive footage of critical meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments.

The Brett Ratner directed documentary focuses on Melania Trump and her transition back to the White House as First Lady of the United States. The former model has a camera crew following her around for 20 days that lead up to President Donald Trump’s inauguration for his second term.

This film offers viewers an official invitation to Mrs. Trump’s private life as she discusses her family, her upbringing, her connection with religion, and what role as First Lady entails.

The cinematography is very refined and clearly high-budget. The quality of the film along with the excitement of hearing from the often quiet FLOTUS quickly grabs the viewers attention.

Nevertheless, the execution was very lackluster and does not serve the purpose of the film. In addition, the film is completely narrated by Melania Trump through a voice over. The aim to stray away from tradition documentaries that utilizes interviews and confessionals is disappointing to say the least.

John Stark, a Rotten Tomato approved critic, shared this same sentiment. “Melania is exactly what you think it is: a very expensive ad for the brand Melania, not so much an exploration of who Melania was, is, or wants to be.”, stated Stark. Furthermore, other critics agreed while giving the film a 10% on Rotten Tomatoes.

On the other hand, the popcornmeter scores the documentary a 98%, which are mostly fans of her husband.

Viewers received multiple glimpses of Melania attempting to sing “Billie Jean” by the late Michael Jackson, but couldn’t quite remember the right words to the song.

There was also some very dull dialogue about colors, dresses, and White House decor.

The one moment that stuck out the most during the film was her brief attempt at activism during her conversations with French First Lady Brigitte Macron and Aviva Siegel, a former hostage in Gaza.

Outside of that, the film is mostly Melania sitting in the backseat of an SUV or walking around with her husband to their next destination.

The film should have focused more on who Melania is outside of being Donald Trump’s work wife. The documentary that supposed to be about Melania Trump is quickly overshadowed by Trump reentering the White House. Melania offers no true insight to viewers about the woman of the hour.
